Teachersí sack: Pro-govt protesters march through Kaduna

Thousands of Kaduna residents on Friday took to the streets of the metropolis to express support for the state governmentís recent sack of teachers who failed a competency test.

It was to counter an earlier one staged by labour unions and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).

The protesters, who commenced their action from the Murtala Mohammed Square, marched through Independence Way, Muhammadu Buhari Way, Ali Akilu Road and Sokoto Road, singing solidarity songs.

They also carried placards with various inscriptions in support of the governmentís quest to provide qualitative education in the state.

The protesters accused the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) of seeking to sabotage the genuine effort of the state government to transform the educational sector for their selfish interests.

They said the governmentís decision was meant to protect the future of the children.
