Gale of defections continues as R-APC members, Kwankwaso's supporters in Edo dump APC

- Members of the R-APC and supporters of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso in Edo state have defected from the ruling APC

- They dumped the ruling party on Thursday, August 9

- The group says the decision was made after critical evaluation and due consultations

Some members of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) and supporters of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso in Edo state have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

Vanguard reports that they were members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which is a unit in the R-APC. The movement was led by APC financier, John Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin.

NAIJ.com gathers that before their defection from the party, there was speculations that the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshimohole, was being expected in the state to reconcile warring factions in the party.

Speaking through its spokesman, Harrison Omagbon, in Benin City, the group said the decision was made after “critical evaluation and due consultations in relation to unfolding political events in the country.”

Other prominent members of the group are Harrison Omagbon, the state coordinator; Roland Alari, a former chairman of Uhunmwode local government area of the state; Francis Ikonomwan, ex-special assistant to Oshiomhole; and Isaac Osahon, a former member of House of Representatives.

The resignation letter read in part: “We wish to inform the state leadership of the APC that the 589,137 members of the Kwankwansiyya movement from the 192 wards in Edo state hereby resign from the APC with immediate effect today (yesterday) August 9, 2018.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that supporters of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political group, Kwankwansiyya Movement in Nasarawa state, on Wednesday, August 8, joined their leader by dumping the APC for the PDP.

The supporters of Kwankwaso stormed the state secretariat of the PDP and declared their defection from the APC with symbolic burning of brooms.
