Another major loss for PDP as tribunal nullifies election of northern lawmaker

- The election of the lawmaker representing Sokoto North II constituency at the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Arzika Sarki of the PDP, has been nullified

- Sarkiís victory had been challenged by Hussaini Tukur of the APC

- The stateís election tribunal declared the election inconclusive and ordered that the Certificate of Return issued to Sarki be withdrawn

The election of the lawmaker representing Sokoto North II constituency at the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Arzika Sarki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been nullified by the Elections Petitions Tribunal in Sokoto.

The tribunal, presided over by Justice Peter Akhimie Akhihiero, ordered that supplementary elections be conducted in the six polling units where results were cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the declaration of Sarki as the winner of the election without INEC conducting supplementary elections in the polling units where results were cancelled, was challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s candidate in the election, Hussaini Tukur.

The March 9 election was subsequently declared inconclusive by the judge, who stated that it was premature and undue for INEC to declare Sarki as the winner of the exercise.

Justice Akhihiero also ordered that the Certificate of Return issued to Sarki be withdrawn, and awarded N20,000 cost in favour of the petitioners.

In a similar development, Legit.ng previously reported that the election of the member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwo\Ezza South federal constituency, Lazarus Ogbee, was cancelled by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

Delivering the judgment on Monday, September 9, Justice Sika Henry Aprioku declared Ogbee's rival, Chinedu Ogar of the APC, as the winner of the poll.

Ogar had contested the result of the election in court, insisting that his votes were erroneously reduced by INEC officials in wards like Ikwo and Onueke in Ezza.
